Title: Using relaxation techniques within positive and coaching psychology practice.
Trainers: Prof Stephen Palmer PhD FISCP & Dr Siobhain O’Riordan PhD FISCP
Location: Zoom Platform. Provider: International Society for Coaching Psychology and co-sponsors
Research highlights the effectiveness of relaxation techniques to reduce stress and anxiety, blood pressure and heart rate. The techniques are relatively simple to use within positive and coaching psychology practice. In 2023, with the ongoing impact of COVID-19, in particular long-COVID, war in Ukraine, global financial uncertainty, greatly increased living costs, it is inevitable that many people are going to feel more stressed about day-to-day living and survival.
This skills-based masterclass will provide the opportunity to practise ‘RE-LAX’ and other relaxation techniques. Participants who have access to a pulse oximeter or other instruments/technology to measure blood pressure and heart rate will be able to monitor the effectiveness of the relaxation techniques practised within the skills-based session. Participants may wish to use smartphones with alarms to ensure they wake up if they are prone to fall asleep when relaxed.
The masterclass is suitable for practitioners who are inexperienced in using relaxation techniques in their coaching sessions either in face-to-face sessions or on online platforms such as Zoom or Skype. However, it may also be of interest to practitioners who have not attended any formal CPD in relaxation techniques but have used it with their practice.
